Magnet Steel Bike Bicycle Indoor Exercise Trainer Stand Review

Magnet-Steel-Bike-Bicycle-Indoor-Exercise-Trainer-Stand

Magnet-Steel-Bike-Bicycle-Indoor-Exercise-Trainer-StandThe FDW Magnet Steel Bike Bicycle Indoor Exercise Trainer Stand is one of the most popular stationary bike stands you can rely one. It is produced by FDW who produces a small range of cycling products. As magnetic trainer, it has 5 internal resistance settings; you can easily change the speed according to your needs. It can fit both road and mountain bikes with a 26”, 27” or 700c bike wheel. An adjustable knob can help you easily change its resistance. It is also very portable, so you can easily fold it and take it anywhere you like and you can easily store it as well. As a sturdy heavy duty trainer, it deserves to have.

Advantages

I think this model is perfect for beginners who just need a cheap but reliable trainer. When I open its box, it looks a little narrower than other models. It is very cheap and the setting up process is also straightforward. However, 5 different resistance settings make it more competitive than other much cheap models with single setting. However, if you are a serious cyclist and need a professional one, obviously this is not suitable for you. You can choose a more reliable one, like a fluid trainer. If you just need a cheaper one, it is your choice.

Customer Reviews

Most users think this unit is easy to set up and 5 resistance settings are also great which can allow them to change the resistance according to different training or speed needs. However, if you have used a fluid one, you can feel the difference of the resistance. As a magnetic model, similar to other ones, the noise is also a main problem. Therefore, it is a good idea to place it in the bedroom and use it in the morning. It is pretty noisy. A good suggestion is to turn up the TV or headphone to block it out. In order to decrease the noise, you can change your tires from hybrid to road tires. Some user said doing this can effectively decrease the noise. However, as a magnetic trainer, we cannot expect it performs as the same as a fluid trainer. As a magnetic stand, it is pretty good.[aff=B004I576SM]

CycleOps-Fluid-2-Indoor-Bicycle-Trainer-300x210

CycleOps-Fluid-2-TrainerBeside Kinetic by Kurt Road Machine Indoor Bicycle Trainer, the CycleOps Fluid 2 Indoor Bicycle Trainer is also one of my favorite stationary bike stands. It is strongly recommended by most consumers.

Whether you need to stay in shape or maintain your cycling level when the weather is so bad outside, this trainer can help you a lot. It is truly a high-quality and solid indoor bike strainer, providing you a real indoor training experience.

It has a new larger flywheel that is able to deliver twice the inertia to ensure you have a road-like feel. Its power-band technology can provide the widest resistance range. The power range is from 20 to 725 watts, so you can enjoy the resistance from nice-and-spins to even ridiculously-challenging to much more realistically imitate high grade climbs. The wattage increases as you increase your speed. Basically, you will feel more resistance as you pedal faster and faster. Its self-cooling mechanisms are also great, which makes the unit cool and perform better and longer.

As a fluid bike trainer, it is perfect for professional cyclists in the world. And more and more cyclists have this trainer. When you spin the wheels on it, you may feel you are really getting somewhere. If you are looking for a trainer which can give you much more realistic feeling, it deserves. It is much more competitive than other fluid trainers, letting along magnetic trainers.

It is a stronger one, so even if you weigh 300 pounds, you don’t need to worry about its ability. What’s more, it is much more quiet than other models. Therefore, if you live in an apartment or you just don’t want to disturb your family or your neighbors, you can try this. And even if you only have a little space, it can work for you.

Key Features:

  • A larger flywheel that can deliver twice the inertia
  • A wide resistance range is provided due to its power band technology
  • Infinite resistance curve means you can increase speed to increase wattage you need
  • Self-cooling mechanisms make the unit durable
  • A really nice choice for riding indoors.

What are people saying about it

“It was so easy to set up.”

“There is little noise and I can listen to music and watch TV while riding.”

“It only took 5 minutes to assemble.”

Any Complaint

There are seldom negative reviews. The average rating is 4.5/5 stars. However, this one costed me much. Maybe this is the only complaint.

All in all, I like this CycleOps Fluid 2 Indoor Bicycle Trainer. If you need a durable and solid but quiet fluid trainer, it deserves to have, even if you need to pay much for it.[aff=B000BT7HWY]

Indoor Exercise Bike Buying Guide

indoor-exercise-bike-buying-guide

If just want to get in shape but you cannot leave your home for indoor cycling classes which are funny and popular, an indoor exercise bike is an alternative way. However, there are plenty of indoor bike trainers on the market and which is the best one?

Recently, one of my friends asked me this question. Of course, if she is a cyclist, I would like to recommend buying a stationary bike stand to have a more realistic riding feeling. However, she is just a housewife and has 3 kids to take care of. Therefore, the best option is to have an indoor exercise bike. She asked what the main features she should pay attention to and what the most important parts of an indoor bike trainer.

These questions are easy for me, because I also have one at home for my wife. The following general tips can help you to find out the best indoor exercise bike for your home.

A nice heavy flywheel is important.

The flywheel of the bike you plan to buy must be at least 40lb. The flywheel is very important. It rotates and continues spinning when you pedal, ensuring you have a similar experience when you are on a regular bike. In one of my posts, I also talked about the flywheel’s importance of a stationary bike stand. It is a key part. Therefore, a nice heavy flywheel can spin more smoothly and make the bike more solid even if for a long time riding. On the market, you will find some models are so cheap because they use lighter flywheels. However, a lighter flywheel may make you feel like you are riding in far too low of a gear. What’s more, you may not control your pedaling very well, which may cause some jerky if you ride too fast. A heavy one doesn’t have similar problems. Believe me, this is very important.

Fore and aft settings handlebar is essential.

For women, a handlebar with fore and aft settings is very important, which means you can move your handle bar front and back to fit perfectly. Generally, bikes have up and down settings, but not all bikes have fore and aft settings. For females, generally, they have shorter torsos than males. Therefore, fore and aft settings can give them a better bike fit. My wife also needs to adjust the handle bar front and back to get a perfect fit. This feature is also very important, if you plan to pedal for a few hours every day.

A Belt-Drive Model is better than a Chain Drive model.

There are 2 types of connection between the pedals and the flywheel: a chain or a belt. When you pedal, the flywheel will be rotated because of the connection. Just remember, a A belt-drive Model is better than a chain drive model, because it more durable and need less maintenance. What’s more, it is much quieter while working.

Choose an adjustable and changeable seat.

No matter what types of bike you are going to buy and if the seat is uncomfortable, you will suffer a miserable riding feeling. Therefore, make sure the seat can be adjustable and even can be changeable. If you feel uncomfortable, you can do something, or it will be a nightmare. Not all bikes can allow you to adjust or change the seat. Just avoid these, or it will be painful.

Buy a Mat and put it underneath the bike.

People buy stationary bikes to do interval training, so that they can develop their strength on regular bikes. For cyclists, they need to keep a regular exercise indoors to maintain their cycling level if it is very cold outdoors. Therefore, the cycling workout is intensive and a mat underneath the bike is helpful to offer needed cushioning and protect your carpets or floors from sweat and any fine dust or grease which may come from the move parts of the bike. A mat also can help your stationary bike, stopping the dust coming out from your carpet to pollute the mechanisms. It is also can keep your bike balanced.

At last, I have to say that if you have a bike, you can consider a stationary bike stand instead of an indoor exercise bike.

Different Types of Stationary Bike Stands

vitual-trainer

If you are the first time to decide to buy a stationary bike stand, you may feel confused and don’t know which type of indoor bike trainers to choose from. I’ve been asked about the difference between different types for many times. Therefore, I decided to write this post to discuss the different types and hope this guide can help you find the right type for your first time purchase.

Magnetic Trainers

Sunlite-F-2-TrainerThe most common and popular type of bike trainer stands is magnetic. The resistance of Magnetic trainers is generated by a magnetic flywheel. The obvious advantage is that they are pretty inexpensive. Most of them only cost you no more than $100. They can offer good resistance. They are also portable, allowing you easily move around. They are also easy to set up. However, compared with high-end models, continuals heavy use may cause problems and their resistance levels are also limited. Compared with fluid trainers, they are a little noisier. Therefore, if you live in an apartment, you should consider this problem. In this situation, a fluid trainer is better.

There are many magnetic trainers available on the market and you’ll find they are so cheap and popular. If you are a beginner, they are right for you. You can check our latest reviews of top 5 best stationary bike stands for under $80.

Fluid Trainers

Kinetic-by-Kurt-Road-Machine-Indoor-Bicycle-Trainer-300x218If you pursue the most authentic ride, you really need to try a Fluid Trainer, which can imitate a real bike ride. The resistance is generated by a magnetic flywheel that combines with a fluid chamber inside the flywheel. Resistance is easy to understand but very important to an indoor bike trainer. When you are feeling you are working out, you feel the resistance. The harder you pedal, the hotter the fluid in the chamber gets. This means the stand’s resistance becomes more challenge when you are working out hardly.

Generally, Fluid trainers are more expensive than other types because of its special design which can offer a much more realistic bike ride, making them perfect for the serious cyclist. If you have an enough budget, I also highly recommend you to purchase this type of stands, because I think they are worth buying. The only downside is their cost. I also used other types of stands. However, at last, I think a fluid stand is what I need. What’s more, I don’t need to worry about noise problems or leak problems.

One of my favorite fluid bike stands, is Kurt Kinetic Road Machine which I listed it in the first place in the comparison table. And now I also use a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine and it works great for me. The Cycleops 2 Fluid Trainer is another fluid stand I highly recommend. It is similar to the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine.

Rollers

bike-rollersRollers are another type of stationary bike stands. The use of rollers is different from other trainers above. You don’t need to attach your bike to the trainer but ride your bike on it. If you are the first time to ride on a roller, it is difficult to balance. However, after practice a few times, it is ok. They are not expensive, even for some good models. If you decide to buy one, Nashbar is a good choice.

Similar to fluid trainers, Pivot trainers are also expensive but also can offer a much more realistic ride. They allow you to rock your bike sideways, offering you a realistic road ride. They are unlike Rollers(we’ll discuss later). If you plan to choose a pivot trainer, The Kinetic Rock and Roll Trainer is the best choice. Although it is expensive, it may be the ultimate indoor bike trainer you can rely on.

Wind Trainers

vitual-trainerGenerally, I don’t recommend wind trainers because the resistance is generated by the rear wheel using a pedal driven fan so that they are noisy. When you are working out, you even cannot hear the TV. If you can bear its noise, you can try it.

Virtual Reality Trainer

windtrainerIf you happen to be a serious cycling junkie, the models above may not attract you. And if you have an enough budget, you can try a virtual trainer which can turn into a living Xbox/PlayStation. They are so pricy but they are so competitive. There are some models on Amazon and most of them will cost you more than $1,000.
